We all have goals. The reality is that not all of us do something about those goals.
I know. I’ve been there. I want a house. I want a better job. I want to be healthier. Want. Want. Want. Those are wishes or dreams unless we get up and do something about them. Those aren’t goals.
How are you going to get that house? Or better job? What are you doing to get one step closer to your goals?
If you’re not mentally and spiritually ready to receive those situations in life that you are wishing for, you will not even recognize an opportunity when it knocks on your door.
Thich Nhat Hanh says that when conditions are right, something will manifest. It comes from that unknown place and goes back to that unknown place.
He uses the example of fire as he lights a match. That match has to be dry. There must be oxygen and the paper or wood of the match itself to fuel the fire. The match has to be struck. Then the fire will manifest. When those conditions no longer exist, the fire is gone. (You can find the full talk here).
What I get from that talk is that everything exists in some form. The talk is on life and death. We came from the unknown place and will go back to the unknown place but we will always exist on some level.
It’s the same for everything. You want good health? You want to lose weight and be fit? You want to feel better and have more energy? You want to live and not just exist?
Then why are you eating that junk food? Why are you watching Netflix? You are not creating the conditions needed in order for good health to manifest.
When I hear quotes like “if you believe it, you can achieve it” I think it means believing in the deepest level. It means to be passionate about and to fight for what your goal. It doesn’t say “wish and achieve” or “want and achieve.” It means to have faith in yourself to make your ideas become reality by working hard and knowing that when the conditions become right it will happen. Eliminate all doubt and know that if you take the steps towards your goals every single day you will accomplish them.
Setbacks will happen. That’s life. But it doesn’t mean the goal has to die. There is no such thing as failure unless you give up. Everything else is just a lesson in what not to do the next time.
The universe is ready to give you what’s yours. It already exists on some level. It’s just waiting for the right conditions.
The universe is ready to hand you so much more than you can imagine. Not just what you ask for but an abundance of what you desire. There’s enough for everyone.
But are you ready? Have you been working on creating the conditions in which all that you desire come to you?
I didn’t just wish for a nursing degree. I had to pick up those books and study. I had to take those books with me everywhere I went for two years. If I didn’t understand a chapter, I had to read it again. I had to write those care plans in detail and understand every aspect of them. What were the patient’s diagnoses? What teaching would I be doing? What medications were they on? What was the reason for those meds? What were the side effects? What were the nursing diagnoses? I had to know that patient’s care plan inside and out before I’d present it to my professor. Then I’d have two patients, then three. You get the idea. When it was time for me to get my nursing degree I was ready. I was so ready to get that degree because I created the conditions for it to manifest into reality.
I got sick recently. I haven’t been able to work. I had a lot of things going on in my life at once. It took me a minute to process all of it. I got sad for a minute. I felt it. I truly felt it. I wanted better things for myself though. I realized I can’t sit around and be sad over things I had no control over if I want to live my best life. I had to turn my wishes into goals. Then I had to get busy. I had to do some deep inner soul work. Then I had to educate myself about some new ideas and concepts. I had some pretty uncomfortable and downright painful physical symptoms that I could have been depressed about. But I refused to stay there for too long. I’ve had depression before and know what it’s like to live there. I was not about to unpack my bags this time.
I had to make some major changes in my health. Uncomfortable changes. Painful choices to go on an elimination diet and get to the root cause of my GI issues. All while I wasn’t feeling well. It’s not easy. No one can help me. No one can do it but me. But sitting around feeling sorry for myself wasn’t going to get me closer to my goal of living my best life and being healthier. The only way that mountain is going to be climbed is one step at a time so I had to get going.
We are creators. I am creating the conditions for which good health, more energy and feeling good can manifest.
Don’t get sucked into believing that if you just wish for something it can magically manifest. “The Secret” and others that got on that band wagon are selling you a pipe dream. They do it because people want an easy answer. It’s the same in the diet industry with diet pills or the beauty industry with creams or plastic surgery industry with knives.
It will never be enough if you go the route of easy. That outer beauty fades and you’ll be looking for the next fix to get you pretty. The weight comes back on and you’ll be looking for the next diet.
Everyone knows the key to being fit is eating right and exercising but not many people are willing to put in that work. Everyone knows that true beauty comes from within but not enough people are working on loving and caring for themselves.
There is scientific proof that if person exercises for a half an hour a day for 5 days a week the chances are slim that they will ever have a heart attack. Yet cardiovascular disease is still the number one killer.
Take a look at this sad photo.
About 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.1
I wrote this post to motivate myself. I want to share that motivation with you so that it will ignite something in you too.
What are your goals for 2020?
How are you going to make it your best year ever?
We don’t have control over everything. I realize that life circumstances may make ideal health impossible for some. I realize that a lot of factors go into financial abundance and yes, many people are living in poverty through no fault of their own. But one thing most of us do have control over is our mental attitude and mindset. As long as I have my wits about me, I’m going to use my mind, as the powerful tool it is, to help me map out my goals. I’m going to tick off those boxes as I accomplish them and keep fighting for what I believe in.
I might cry while I’m fighting for them. I may have moments of overwhelm. I might need to take a break sometimes but I will not give up.
I’m getting ready. I hope you are too.
I believe in you.
May you be happy and well.
